Originally, Donald E. McCown offered three successive painted pottery traditions for northern: the Sialk horizon, the Cheshmeh Ali horizon, and the Hissar horizon. The ceramic sequence at Cheshmeh Ali shows two millennia of occupation from the Late Neolithic through the Late Chalcolithic.
